## Our Mission

We believe that once a problem can be seen, it can be solved. With this motivation, India Policy Insights (IPI) seeks to promote evidence-based policy deliberation, formulation, and action with its comprehensive online geovisual data platform. Using novel methodologies, IPI provides value-added data for health, nutrition and population indicators for India’s Districts, Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs), Assembly Constituencies (ACs) and Villages.

Currently the following data dashboards are available for users:

[Sustainable Development Goals for Districts and PCs](#sdg)

[India Policy Insights Districts and PCs Tracker](#pop-health-wellbeing)

[NFHS Factsheet for Districts and PCs](#nfhs-factsheet)

[Child Undernutrition across ACs and Villages](#child-undernutrition)

### The Current Challenge expand\_more

**Data That Supports Democracy** – Health and development data collected at the district level in India typically does not align with policy units such as Parliamentary Constituencies, where MPs have a direct role in policy decision-making. For truly impactful dialogue and accountability, policymakers and constituents must have data that accurately reflects the most pressing needs of their communities.

**Precision Data Is Lacking** – Data aggregated at the district level can mask critical within-district variations in smaller areas – such as the more than 1000 villages that comprise an average Indian district. For meaningful progress, interventions need to reach the right populations. Small area precision data can transform our understanding of where the greatest need lies and how to target resources for the greatest impact.

**Limited Data Integration** – While current dashboards provide essential insights into specific policy areas such nutrition, until now there has been no practical method for assessing an issue within its broader national context. Meaningful collaboration at the national and state level will require a fully integrated understanding of India’s current health and development challenges across geographies, and other related indicators.

### A Solution expand\_more

**Apply cutting-edge data analysis** to help spotlight populations and policy issues in India that have not been fully identified with existing monitoring tools.

**Provide a public, single-stop health & development data resource** for a broad range of indicators across India’s geographies & relevant policy units

**Identify and disseminate critical policy insights** gleaned from our data tools via data stories, policy briefs and policy-relevant publications

## NFHS Factsheet Data Visualization

DISCLAIMER: The indicators and the data underlying the “NFHS Factsheet Geo-Visualization” dashboard is based on the provisional factsheets that are initially released. The International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS) states that the microdata released later supersedes the factsheet data. We however continue to share the dashboard with this disclaimer. A dashboard based on the microdata with a different set of indicators (but with some overlaps with the factsheet) can be viewed at “India Policy Insights Districts Tracker”.

Using the district and parliamentary constituency (PC) factsheets from the National Family Health Surveys (NFHS-4 and NFHS-5), we present these interactive dashboards to visualize health, nutrition, and population on 75+ policy indicators linked to government programs across India. Through these dashboards, users can visualize and analyze NFHS-5 (2019-21) factsheet data, as well as change between NFHS-4 (2015-16) and NFHS-5 factsheets for the districts and PCs of India.

## Child Undernutrition Data Visualization

### AC Data Geographic Visualization

This interactive dashboard provides the first ever micro-level health metrics across India’s 4,000 Assembly Constituencies (ACs). The Members of the Legislative Assembly elected by the ACs are responsible for designing and overseeing new policy initiatives. Linking GPS data from the 2016 Indian Demographic and Health Survey (NFHS-4) with existing boundary files for India’s ACs, we extrapolated health data for over 200,000 children under five, estimating the prevalence of four key indicators for undernutrition: stunting, underweight, wasting, and anemia.

### Village Data Map Visualization

The interactive dashboard allows users to explore granular geographic variations and rankings of nearly 600,000 villages in rural India in terms of the burden of childhood undernutrition. The data is from the 2016 Indian Demographic and Health Survey and the 2011 Indian Census for village-level demographics and amenities to predict child stunting, underweight, and wasting for all villages in India.
